Player History

Have you had any warnings in the past? If so, please list them:

  • Attempted mass VDM | Stealing dropship | NitRP | 2 day ban - 28-01-20
  • FailRP (Dancing & Stealing Lambda) | Suicide to avoid OOC and IC punishment - 03-02-20

When I first jumped on the server I wasn't really serious about playing and just spent a little time minging, but the warns/ban happened and they were fair.

Have you had any bans in the past? If so, please list them:

  • Attempted mass VDM | Stealing dropship | NitRP - 28-01-20

Have you had any similar positions (Staff, PAC3, Developer) on other servers? If so, please list them:

Nope

Basic Reasoning Questions

Why should you be given this position over others?:

I'm good at problem solving and figuring out how things work, so I think I would do a good job at fixing bugs.

I also have quite a bit of professional software engineering experience, so I could bring a lot of experience to anything outside of GMOD (web, backend, etc.)

Why should you be trusted with this position? and do you believe others think of you with the same perspective?:

Outside of some minging in my early days (see warns) i've been pretty reasonable, and I don't think i've broken anyone's trust.

There's a lot of people that I don't really interact with, mainly because i've only been in 1 battalion my entire time on the server, but I think that everyone that I interact with regularly trusts me.

Why are you applying for this position?:

Interested in learning how these big servers are managed (from a technical standpoint) and think I would be able to contribute here.

Before we continue, anything else you’d like to add?:

Just to be clear, I currently have no experience developing in the context of LUA/GMOD, so would be learning on the spot but I have a lot of general development experience to back me up.

I have a few years full-time professional experience doing software engineering and I'm generally pretty good at figuring things out when it comes to software.

Developer Reasoning Questions

What region would you be specifically applying for (You may select more than one):

Developer

What programming languages (Developer)/Programs (Other) do you specialise in? (Must specialise in at least one field):

Dotnet (C#), Typescript/Javascript, Bash, SQL, a bit of Python, Golang, Ruby, and a bunch of other stuff that wouldn't be relevant

What kind of content would you like to develop for our server:

My main goal would be to improve server performance, with the rough target being the ability to change map faster (without losing half the server) and ability to handle more stuff (i.e. more NPCs).

It would also be nice to have more mini-game type activities to do, which can make training/events/rp more interesting than /roll. The server already has a little hacking mini game, but it could also be things like bomb defusal, repairing parts broken around the ship, and more/reworked missions.

Some multiplayer based missions involving a bit of passive rp would also be cool - for example one to return lost property to x individual. Could even make patrols/guarding more interesting if you could share a mission with the your whole reg.

There's also potential to replace some of the out of game pieces (i.e. spreadsheets) with web apps, maybe even with more content like a database for character bios.

Have you made any other scripts or content we should know about?

Nothing related to gmod/lua

  • Worked with Fire through my stint in VF as CO, and my previous time as an officer, and I can confidently say he has my full trust as a trooper, and as a friend (OOC).
  • Fire is quite a knowledgeable individual too, when it comes to developing related stuff (AFAIK), but I'll leave that review to the devs.
  • Very well made app, could use a couple of examples, but as mentioned by Fire himself, he learns quickly and I'm sure he will do fine in a dev position.

Good luck, Fire

Yo,
Nice to see a fellow JavaScript Developer in the wild,
However before I support your application I'd like to see some gLUA related work in your application, It shouldn't be too steep from JavaScrip. Just like a simple addon or something.
Check the other applications for ideas.

For now, NEUTRAL

As Aiko said, if you could provide some examples of what you've done previously that'd be nice. As you said you haven't had any experience in Gmod/Lua, I started with these channels and found them extremely helpful

Even if over the next few days you start a few small projects and update the app to include stuff you've worked on I'd be down to give a +1. The examples don't have to be complex and if you get stuck myself and the other devs will be glad to help out.

Very friendly and switches on individual, I'm not much of a developer tech wizz when it comes to topics like this, but Fire really demonstrates his capabilities/experience and I personally feel he would be without a doubt a great addition to the development team.

Good luck :)
