Army Structure

Over the past two months I have been making (with the help of lots of great community members) lots of changes regarding the army’s structure and its regiments. These changes have all been contributing towards a larger rework that we have had in mind. It was decided to implement smaller changes as opposed to a complete overhaul, because they prevent cases where large amounts of players need to be displaced and they allow us to wait until circumstances permit a non-disruptive change (i.e. a regiment dies). With all this said, I believe that we have reached the point where I can finally release the full extent of the intended army rework. So far, these are the completed changes.

Completed Changes:

  • Weapons & HP rework
  • Removal of E.V.O.
  • Reduction of Medical Company slots
  • Increase in support slots
  • Addition of the brigadier rank for commanders
  • Removal of Shadow
  • Addition of ARC
  • Addition of Siege Squad

While these specific regimental changes may be temporary, the underlying structure is intended to be permanent. This structure has also been intentionally designed to be modular, which allows IHC, battalion command, and management to swap regiments/companies/squads in and out of the server with ease. If a regiment dies then it can easily be rotated out for another regiment which would find more popularity than its predecessor. This structure can be seen below.

As shown above, following these changes, each battalion will now have a battalion commander slot which will be given overall command over; the base regiment, 1st company, and 2nd company/elite squad. This battalion commander will be able to achieve the rank of brigadier (CL5) but will remain in the base regiment. This position will also enable the base regiment, to have more than one CL4 slot, under certain circumstances. The battalion will consist of a base regiment which has twelve slots, the first company which has six slots, and either a second company or an elite squad with six and four slots respectively. Under this system, anything from elite squads to entire battalions can be swapped in and out of the server allowing for more RP avenues and preventing regiments from becoming stale. Another intention of this change is to increase the connectivity within battalions. The base regiment and its attached companies/squad are meant to work together as one battalion.

Finally, the aim of this post is to be transparent with the community because you guys are entitled to know, and to some extent have input, on major changes that affect the way the server functions. Below, I have listed the next round of changes that will be implemented in the very near future. I hope this post is able to answer most questions, but as always, I am more than happy to answer any questions in the comments and I am even open to slight alterations of this plan.

Upcoming Changes:

  • Addition of Shoretroopers
  • Addition of one AHC slot
  • Addition of another regiment to the 275th [TBA]
  • Implementation of the battalion commanders
  • Increased promotion days for select ranks
  • Redistribution of slots
  •
  • Changing the name of siege squad

FAQ:

Q. Why are you capping non base regiments at lieutenant colonel? This means, commanders will have to join the base regiment which will impede on the progression of majors in the base regiment.

A. In order for the battalion commander position to be effective in its jurisdiction, it needs to be the highest rank in the battalion. If this was not the case, regimental commanders could choose not to abide by the battalion commander's orders. While this does not directly address the point of the base regiment majors, you'll see above that the base regiment will be given two CL4 slots under certain circumstances.

Q. What regiments can be rotated in?

A. In theory, the options are unlimited given there is a playermodel an acceptable regimental mandate. I have also compiled a list below of possible regiments.

Q. What are the circumstances for two CL4 slots in the base regiment?

A. While the exact rules are still in the works and subject to change, the current proposal is that, if the battalion commander is colonel or higher, the 2IC will be able to progress to lieutenant colonel and fulfill the role of regimental commander for the base regiment.

Q. Companies and Elite squads have too few slots, given all players wont be on at the same time, they will be unable to be active.

A. As stated above, its best to perceive the companies and squads as part of the same regiment as the base regiment. Even if there is only one person on in the elite squad, they can still work with the base regiment and act as a kind of specialist.

Q. Why have overall army slots decreased?

A. Before the removal of EVO and Shadow, and the reduction of medical trooper slots, there were 260 slots on the server, not including stormtroopers. It is unrealistic for a server that averages ~90 players to be able to fill all these slots, and as we have seen, it left some regiments empty. As army made up the largest portion of these slot (114 of these 260), It was the obvious first place to start in slot reduction.

Q. Why are you adding another AHC slot, after recently removing one?

A. The slot removed previously was that of a legion commander. After moving regiments around, we were left with two legions, instead of three plus STs. Therefore there was no longer a need for that AHC slot. This new slot, is designed to focus on other aspects of RP, whilst also retaining the secondary role of legion/army commander, should an AHC member be offline or on LOA.

Terror Troopers.. @Razzle Uh oh.

SCAR Troopers @Ubermolen Uh Oh.

Also didn't incinerator and Magma play almost identical roles on the server

and it'll be interesting to see how you separate swamptroopers and 224th considering they were one regiment before.

and by god not the demolitions battalion

It also makes it IMPOSSIBLE for EM's to get EC's even close to the Bridge as DT just bodyblock that doorway and have their cloak vision. I can't remember the last time EC's got to the bridge and had some sort of RP. Last time it happened EC's held Navy hostage and DT didnt listen to negotiations attempts they just bum rushed it and sprayed at the EC's

If you've got an issue with DT or a situation that has happened then please talk to DT about it instead of complaining about it publicly. We're always happy to have a chat.

I think these are just possibilities, there’s obviously some overlap and stuff that would not happen if another one happened, for example like you said, 224th and Swamp.

If they do their jobs too well, then why would you want another regiment on top of them to guard the BSD?

Naval Guards would just do the exact same thing as DT but without thermals.
