episode 6 into the mind of my girlfriend

Recommended Posts

I was watching kung-fu panda with the 501st and @thedumbgirlfriend joined me and the whole time kept talking about how it Had so many similarities with to star wars. Oogway was Qui Gon, Obi wan was Shifu, Tai lung was anakin/vader, po was luke. all this stuff, there was a yoda/luke training scene and all this stuff. I agree a little but it's a bit farfetched for sure. Any opinions?

Yeah that makes sense. If you really look at it a lot of movies are very similar writing-wise.

Its something called the "Hero's Journey" and it is a sort of roadmap of where you should take your story to help really give legs. Not every story hits every beat in order or even hits every beat but the basics of it are in a lot of media, for better or for worse.

Its great because its what allows for things that subvert expectstions *well* to exist and have an effect on people, but it means that a lot of media is really easy to predict.

Basics are: Hero is "regular person", they're called to action for some reason, sometimes they take the call other times they need to be pushed by a person or force, they make friends along the way, the reach the big ordeal or roadblock they need to overcome, they overcome the roadblock, returning with a physical or mental reward, the reward isnt necessary but it represents personal growth so if they dont have one by the end then they are doomed to repeat the journy.

The green saber is mostly marked as the symbol of the Jedi council. Heroes of the Republic. Protectors of peace.
What else is green and is a symbol for the heroes? The Sword of Heroes, the weapon wielded by the Dragon Warior.

You see Jedi council members such as Obi-Wan and Yoda believing that Anakin Skywalker is the chosen one.
You see most of the Furious Five and Master Oogway believing that Po is the chosen one.

Master Mace Windu doesn't like Anakin being the chosen one.
Master Tigress doesn't like Po being the chosen one.

There's an old wise green guy called Yoda.
There's an old wise green guy called Oogway.

Those two old wise green guys both goes on lectures about letting go of the past and peace or whatever.

Obi-Wan refuses to fight Anakin, his old apprentice, but ends up changing his mind and fighting him anyways.
Shifu refuses to fight Tai Lung, his old apprentice, but ends up changing his mind and fighting him anyways.

Anakin marches into the Jedi temple.
Tai Lung just walks into the Jade Palace and beats up Master Shifu.

Yoda fades away into the force.
Master Oogway ascends and disappears when his time came.

Yeah the evidence is pretty strong.

A green saber means that they are strong willed and fought evil through passion, not always a member of Jedi Council. But they did tend do have green because they were good.
