Teamspeak and Forums Suggestions

It has been a while since we've had any major changes to the Teamspeak and the Forums, and now I've done a bit of work behind the scenes (there's an actual list of shit I've done that's a bit old now) but most of it is behind the scenes or very minimal, such as the removal of the Santos section on the forums and just general updates here and there.

I have been asking to do a suggestions post for the Teamspeak and the Forums for a few weeks now, but due to the newness of my position as Forums and Teamspeak supervisor as well as the Director Isard applications, I was told not to go ahead with this post until this morning @Cecil gave me his blessing to make the post, so, lets get into it.

I have done everything that's been suggested to me by the Staff/Management Team and been approved, so, I turn to the community to ask for any suggestions on what could/should be done on the forums as well as on the Teamspeak Server. This can be anything from new tags, new sections to the forums, anything you can think of at all. Let me know!

I want to do as much as I can for these platforms while I'm supervising them and helping them become as good as they can be.

Fire away those serious suggestions! (Meme ones will be ignored).

Thanks! The Teamspeak and Forums Team will go over these at a later date!

back to top option

This is already a thing isn't it? If not I'll get it fixed.

EDIT: The back to top button has been fixed (it was toggled off for some) and can be seen in the bottom right when you scroll down, the top arrow.

de_lete ts and switch to skype

Switch from invisionzone back to mistforums

On a serious note: Have tags for how long you’ve been playing the server for (both on TS and Forums). On forums you can start it from when they made a forum account.

Make the forum a bit more phone friendly.

Can we get this point into action Bailey? You never know when you gonna need it ;)

Would make TS perms for users too OP.

Make the forum a bit more phone friendly.

There's no reliable way to tell when someone has been playing for, as well as it seems like an unnecessary way to put a divide between newer and older players of the Server.

Can't make the forums a bit more phone friendly without going to an entirely different set of CSS which costs a lot of $.

Quality of Life

  1. Make certain elements of the forums colour-customisable. I would love to purple up my page a little bit, even if nobody else sees it. If you choose to not go through with this, at least change all the orange elements, which exist in the default template for these forums, to blue to stay consistent.
  2.  I would love a veteran's badge on the forums, as shown on Teamspeak. To argue it would separate people in the community into groups is irrelevant based on the fact a badge on Teamspeak and ranks and badges on the forums exist. Recognition is nice.
  3. A user's birthday can be (optionally) shown in the user's name with a party hat emoji and confetti streaming down their profile page, making it more obvious.
  4. Remove posts to the Gallery from showing up in Unread Content, or at least make it an option. Since the Gallery isn't used with any sort of frequency, it's jarring to see posts clog up the Unread Content page when people do post there. Alternatively, posts on the Gallery could be grouped into single posts.

Major Additions

  1. If possible, a user's in-game name, regiment and rank could be displayed alongside their forum rank and reputation. This information could be tied to the job code on the server.
  2. Change the forum banner to represent all of the regiments or at least large organisations on the server. In relation to the previous suggestion, a banner could be automatically selected to be displayed for a user who is in a particular regiment. e.g. A user in Regional Government would have a Government banner display above the chatbox when they first enter the forums. This banner would change when they change regiments.

Some cool ideas here, I'm unsure if the major additions are possible, but we can sure give them a shot.

The customisable colours should be relatively easy, veteran's badge can be done (as long as they've already got it on TS) if its approved. Users birthday is possible to do, will look into it if its approved. Posts from gallery in unread content can be done too.

Donatable Custom Roles on the TS/Forums. Make em uber expensive or something. They wouldn't have perms except if they WERE a staff/donator/etc the role would have equivilant perms.

Will have to see about this, could seem like a huge money grab on our parts.

Well said, I was going to reply with the same.

All I've done is make server management and community management names look different, lmao. Good to see that you're committed to the big projects.

Money Grab maybe. Or ways to express individuality.

People don't have to do this, it could literally just be something to do that'd be nice. It's not like: Pay money to access the TS/Forums/Server.

I'm unaware of the logistics to create such an edit, but an update to the scrolling title card bar at the top of the forums would be cool (image below for reference). For ease of access for new players, a card could be added with a link to the servers training discord server. Clicking on the link could activate a permanent link to the discord using the browser discord format. Although it's already pinned on the right side bar of the main forums menu, a card for the TeamSpeak could also be added. Upon clicking on the link could activate a request for TeamSpeak to open, with a connection to the TS ready to go. The second suggestion seems redundant though.

That can actually easily be done, just waiting on our amazing Graphic Designer team to come through with it all :)

  • I think a nice addition would channel descriptions for the official channels (lobby, support lounges, public and gaming lounges, event channels and community staff) that aren't absolute ass.
    • Possibly utilize some nice images and gifs, not just text only.

I'll look into getting some images made up for these channels.
