Hey guys, I usually don't do these sorts of things, but there's been something rather important happening within the SCP community, and it is important, at least for me, to share this to as many people as I can.

Recently, a man named Daniel Desmet, more commonly known as Dr. Gears throughout the entire SCP community, was diagnosed with cancer.

For those of you who aren't too familiar with SCP, it is essentially one of the largest online creative writing communities and has inspired many sorts of medias, such as video games, short films, and stories. Their website, alongside over 4000 creatively written entries can be found on http://www.scp-wiki.net/. SCP entries are mostly based of fictional anomalous entities that are contained and locked up by a secret organization known as the SCP Foundation. There are many famous entries out there that have been beloved/feared by fans throughout the internet, even earning themselves their own games and short films.

One of the community's earliest writers, Daniel Desmet, who took the alias of Dr. Gears was diagnosed with cancer. The entire SCP community owes this man for everything he's done for it. He was the man who wrote the feared and beloved entries SCP-682, SCP-106, SCP-914, a couple of large and incredibly important entries within the site. It's a bit of an understatement to say that he's done a lot for the website. He's inspired so many people with his work. He's created concepts that have been built up from the ground into something the community uses so, so often like the Groups of Interest; Serpent's Hand, Broken God, and Marshall, Carter, and Dark Ltd.

Daniel Desmet is one of the most important writer within the SCP wiki. He practically helped create it.

Without him, there wouldn't be any of the SCP video games we know. There wouldn't be an SCP Containment Breach, there wouldn't be an SCP: Secret Laboratory. There wouldn't be any YouTube channels dedicated towards the SCP universe.

Now if you've had a conversation with me, or know me, you'd know that I'm a massive fan of SCP and even came to Imperial Gaming from an SCP community. Even many of the events I've ran on the server were, in some ways, inspired by SCP. So this is incredibly critical, for me, to spread the word about it.

Three days ago, a gofundme page was created with a goal of 20,000 USD. In the course of those three days, it's managed to go up and beyond the 20,000 dollar mark. 

Now, 20,000 dollars is cutting short when it comes to something like this.

I've done my share of things, so please, if you could, donate as well.

I'm actually so thankful for his stories. Every few weeks I go down a down a rabbit hole of SCP-RP content, and good chuck of them had influence from Daniel's work. I'll see what I can cough up.

This is very sad to hear and I have to admit SCP-106 was a very good read when I read it some years ago and this man is a very talented individual in general. I hope the best for him, although I can't donate sadly. Respect this post btw Kris and you shouldn't have to feel the need to explain why you're posting this since we all can understand.

I've never really been one to be interested in scp and it's vast content but to those who are I respect You, it's one of those communities where I've never had a negative interaction with anyone from it so in my eyes it's probably one of the best online communities we have on this earth.

@Kristofer You and Mike (Iforgot his ig username) know me pretty well from Pantheon, and  the nights we  would stay up in the staff lounge talking about  random sh*t and scp sh*t

now you and I are SCP  nerds at heart, and we would  have never met if  it weren't for pantheon  and  scp  probably wont be as good as it was without this man right  here.

So despite the fact that this will put a hole in my pocket. it's worth it.

Couldn't say it any better. You and I especially would know how much everything that he directly and indirectly did towards SCP as a whole affected us and without him we most likely wouldn't even be on IG today.
