Anybody Else Miss That Feeling?

Guest Goliath but on his laptop

Holy crap I feel this.  The first times you always join a server is great, the exploration and discovery is the best part.  The best choice I ever made was when I came back to IG after a break, I deliberately avoided any OOC politics (keep it IC) and it was (and still sorta is) great.

Damn dude, Rivers posed a good question.

I will, honest to god, never forget my first days/weeks on the server. It's like that feeling you sometimes got as a kid, where you parents would take you somewhere you've never been or somewhere you've always wanted to go. Even now I get those feelings... sometimes. I guess it's a feeling of knowing that something is right and this is somewhere you're meant to be. I mean, I can't speak on behalf of everyone in the community, but by god am I glad I trusted my guts.

I remember staying up late with a couple of friends, joined the server at around 2AM during dead hours. First time playing Star Wars RP, thought it sounded fun.

I loaded into the server and the first voice I heard was from Staff Sergeant VF 'Rivers'. I still remember the tour we had, took me around the ship. I was completely lost after that, I got lost around the ISD and didn't know how to navigate around.

The day after, I hopped back on to see a decently sized population, walked around the ship and almost got arrested for not knowing where to go. Then a certain Braino of 212th walked up to me and asked whether or not I wanted to join the regiment. I did. I tried out, almost failed due to not knowing how to climbswep. I then managed to get into 212th and began to climb the ranks, those were the days that a promotion to Lance Corporal felt so rewarding. I remember getting promoted to Sergeant, that was a glorious day, I was so glad to have achieved a white pauldron. I stayed within the regiment for a little less than 3 months and managed to reach Warrant Officer I.

Those were the days. Those were the days I tried my hardest to do my role as a trooper for the Empire, the days I feared the ISB and Sith, and respected Imperial High Command and only wanted to impress the generals. Those were the more care-free days, now it's way more Bureaucratic with all the OOC drama that gets tossed over frequently.

I really do miss the old feeling.

I fondly remember Imperial Gaming in 2017. Before the big split, before a bunch of OGs resigned, all that kind of stuff. It was special watching the server grow and mature along with you and see it reach (what I think) was its peak in late 2017. There was so much new stuff being introduced and expanded upon. MHC Secretaries and Generals being all the rage, non-canon regiments, PAC3, Advertising Team, a bunch of Sith regiments, Rishi Moon, the old Star Destroyer. The server became truly one-of-a-kind, and everything I had just mentioned was being worked on all at the same time and with the same overwhelming level of passion.

Now, MHC has merged with IHC, non-canon stuff has been stripped away, PAC3 is being very heavily managed (for good reason I must add), there is no Media Team and the Sith have been stripped back (again, for good reason, but it was cool having Lords running around when they were around). This isn't bad, I don't wish to imply that at all, but the server has definitely evolved throughout its life as it should, and I must admit I do miss some of the old things.

Realistically, I'm in the best place I could've ever hoped for: a Moff in the Regional Government, the overseer of what I created; it's not something I ever plan to move out of. But there was definitely something special, something different, back in the 2017 and 2018 days.

But compared to most of the player base now I must seem like a boomer to them, so who cares what I think?

I'd give anything to be back as a PVT of Inferno Squad with just @wflizzi as my Commander, and not knowing what was happening, or what the hell anything was. Good times.

I've grown, and with growth comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes skill. I would love to be back there, but during that time I was naive to a lot of things in life. If given the chance to go back to those times, I wouldn't take up the offer. They are just fine as a memory, it helps me appreciate how far I've come, and how far I'll go.

Just something I wanted to share, being an old timer.

Also @Marsh bullied me back in the day. Again, good times.

Yes, I remember, that was the best, I still remember recruiting you :D

+1 I just miss losing all of the people i loved playing with, i saw the event master team slowly shift and people leaving and joining, then everyone slowly hating me. Miss the good old days when i would get on after school waiting for everyone to join. Miss Sudo the most ;-; . The saddest thing was when i would get on the forums and see someone leave forever and when i left a reg and felt like i disappointed my CO :/ . Bye

@Rivers This is a big part of the reason for my depature. Give it a few months when I'm finished with my second semester of University and I reckon when I come back I'll be keen to get back on that grind. I do suggest taking break as it makes the everyday tasks less like a chore but like fun again. Miss all you gamers, keen to come back and visit again sometime

I can relate @Snow

I would get home about 4 o clock, and the first thing I would do is get my struggling school laptop out and jump on IG.

Everyday was awesome, sometimes I was disappointed, but sometimes I would laugh my brains out.

Although people who joined around or before my time will say those days are the glory days, and I agree with that, I believe that the true glory days is your first week playing on a server. Everything is new, exciting, you barely know anyone, and you desperately try and impress your commander so that you can get a promotion... But playing on the server with this feeling, the feeling that is so hard to describe but feels so nostalgic, is what makes the glory days.

Just these posts about nostalgia and your past reinvigorate my enthusiasm for SWRP, because it brings back remnants of this feeling and reminds you of your best times and memories on the server.

I'm not sure how many of you will be able to relate to this but it's something that I've thought about over the past few days as I hit my one year anniversary with IG and got some flashbacks to my first experiences on the server, particularly within Vader's Fist. The feeling that I'm talking about of course is that initial innocence of when you first joined the server, taking things really seriously, not knowing where to go around the map and discovering new things every day, working as hard as possible when promotions from PVT to PFC felt rewarding and well earned. Without me even noticing until now, that feeling is completely gone and it kinda sucks to be honest as it was something that made every experience on the server exciting and interesting.

Maybe it's just me but I'd love to go back and play through those first couple of months all over again.

It has happened with me before, especially because of how I was never on a star wars rp server before
