RIDDLE

If I borrow $50 off my mum and $50 off my dad that’s $100. I buy a watch for $97, I have $3 change. I give $1 to my mum and $1 to my dad, I keep the remaining $1. I owe my mum $49 and my dad $49, together that’s $98 plus the $1 I kept that’s $99. Where is the other $1?

the more I read this the more fried my brain got...

So you buy it for $97, you have $3 and you give $1 to your mum and dad each so you have $1, you owed them $48.50 each and gave them $1 each, equaling $99 and you have the last $1.

Just going off on what Shepard said let's imagine the watch costs 75 dollars, not 97.   After buying it you have 25 dollars change, you then proceed to pay your mom and dad a dollar each hence you now have 23 dollars left. 23 + 2 +75 = 100.
